9/17/09 Deals

Yesterday was a great deal day! I met up with my best friend for some girl time. First we went to the Priscilla of Boston store, they were having a sample sale and as you all know I am getting married next year so I have been looking for wedding dresses. I tried on a couple but only kind of liked one, we were ready to go and I thought we were going to leave empty handed but I remembered that I needed a flower girl dress. We had not seen any on the racks so I asked a sales lady. She went in the back and pulled about 8 dresses. I found one that was originally $155, it was marked down to $19.99! THEN, the sales lady told me it was 50% off the lowest price! I paid $10.81 out the door for a brand new flower girl dress! The best part is that its for my dog. She is a big part of our life and we really wanted to include her in our big day!

After that we were on a bargain high! We went to a free standing Chick-fil-A just after 5:30pm and got 2 free chicken sandwiches, it was PACKED! Then we raced to the mall and hit up the Chick-fil-A inside the mall for 2 more sandwiches. While we were at the mall we swung by Saks to do the Shampoo Swap. The lady did try to sell me the conditioner but I told her I was only there for the free shampoo! My friend forgot her shampoo but the lady was kind enough to give her a sample.

At the end of the day I spent $10.81 and got 4 sandwiches, 1 over priced shampoo and a flower girl dress. I am one happy girl!

CVS Clearance

Just a reminder to always keep your eyes peeled for the clearance at CVS. I stopped in a CVS today to see if they have any summer clearance items left and I stumbled across an even better clearance section. My best find was a 4 pack of Gillette Mach 3 cartridges for $1!!! This is DF's favorite razor!! They also had Disney Cars themed party supplies and pictures frames.

Gift Idea: Make your own exfoliators

Salt scrubs can work wonders if you want smooth, hydrated skin. But some salt scrubs can range from $30-$90 a jar, so this beauty treatment can be hard to justify. Instead, make your own personalized salt scrub at home with this easy-to-follow recipe, and save big!To start: Mix together 3 cups Epsom salts and 1 cup olive oil (other oils will work as well) and mix until it is consistently blended. Next, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (I prefer lavender oil for its soothing smell). Remember to start out with a tiny amount so you don’t make your scrub too potent. If you have sensitive skin, or would prefer a smoother scrub, use granulated sugar instead of the salt. Make sure to use this at the sink or while in your tub or shower. The salts will dissolve when rinsed thoroughly. Store the mixture upright in a sealed container.I tried this recipe several times and it’s great for dry skin around your knees and elbows, and it works beautifully on your hands for dry cuticles. You can also make several batches, put in pretty jars and give them to friends as gifts. I know I will be making several of these for birthday gifts!

Half Price Books

I keep a stack of books & magazines that I've read and take them to half price books once every 2 months. I save the money from a couple of trips and I purchase a gift card when they offer a deal (usually buy a $25 gift card get a $5 cp). I try to stretch my dollar that way.
For Labor Day weekend they offered 0% off everything in the store, so I stocked up on some good reads til the next holiday or round of coupons!

Amazon Lightning Deals

Make sure you keep your eye on the daily deals from Amazon. I have subscribed so I get notified when they post a new deal. The deals start to get better as we approach the holiday season.

I lucked out the other day. My 1-yr subscription to Mcafee was expiring in 2 days and we were not thrilled to renew it. I had been shopping around but could not find a deal on a quality product. Lo and behold, I got an email from amazon about a daily deal on McAfee! I immediately went to Amazon to see the deal. It was $9.99 for Mcafee total protection for 3 computers! I was excited to buy something I could use right away, not something for the gift closet or the stockpile Good Luck!

Bed Bath & Beyond

Just wanted to RAVE on their customer service for a minute. I purchased 4 items and only had 2 coupons, I went back a few days later with my receipt and 2 more coupons and they refunded me the difference after applying the coupons. I think that is awesome. I usually have plenty of coupons but it was a spur of the moment stop. Keep this in mind when you are shopping there.

Kohl's Clearance

If you havent been to Kohl's this week you should definitely swing by. They have some smoking clearance deals in every section. I will post details on my awesome finds later this week. It is DF's birthday on Wednesday and he subscribes to my blog so I do not want to spoil any of his presents!
